Lynch doesn't want chapters on his DVDs because he wants the movie to be taken as a whole.
Below are my breakdown of "chapters" as I see them (DVD R1). For those interested, you can just print these out
(»print version) and stick them in your DVD case of Mulholland Drive for future use. I've found them very helpful when I'm analyzing the movie - as it saves a lot of time finding the right spot.
You can skip to the beginning of each chapter instantly on most DVD players by
using the time code function. Consult your player's manual on how to do this.
In my case, with my Sony player, I first insert the DVD and hit the "Display" button on the remote. From the menu, I select "Time/Text" then hit the right
arrow of the remote. The current time on the DVD display becomes slots to plug
in numbers (__:__:__). I hit the six-number "Time start" combination of a particular chapter, then hit "Enter". The chapter is immediately accessed.
