Bob posted Mr. Hankey from South Park cos it looked like the little guy on the key.

Hank is the name of the AD on Sylvia North Story.

Plus a key.

Hank-key.

Throw Winkies into the mix. Hankey's, Winkies.

he was representing two people at once: himself (as the literal killer) and Diane (who hired him and ordered the hit).

works for me. hadn't thought of that.

Oh, I wasn't even aware of the "key" part in my joke. Same with "Winkeys"
That's the kind of stuff that easily gets by non-native speakers.

Here's another one with different coloured eyes. David Bowie from Fire Walk With Me:

Maybe Joe's one blue eye one brown eye are because he's half Camilla and half Diane, in the dream. The hit is only half Diane's fault.

In real life he's all Diane because of course she's the real culprit.

I suspect this is one of those things that Lynch throws in so he can use it later. I don't think he necessarily knew exactly what it would mean when he decided Joe's costume would include contact lenses. But it set up the possibility of a duplicity or a split motivation which might have proved useful at some point as the TV show progressed.

We know that on TP not all the plot was worked out in advance (as is common on long running TV shows). It's highly likely the MD pilot was created in the same way. I've also heard that IE was made as a journey of discovery, with the meaning or relationship between different elements of meaning being discovered through the filmmaking process.

For the record I don't think that makes it any less meaningful. A thing can become full-of-meaning at a later time.

yeah, an amalgam of sorts. Joe would be, in the Joe and Ed scene an intersection point between the two (Diane/Betty / Rita/Camilla).

I don't want to embed my Grand Unified Theory into every gosh darn observation, for now I just figured this was an interesting observation.

Oh crap. The observation looks totally moronic posted right after siku's post that lays it all out.

Sigh. It's just been a bad couple weeks, no two ways about that.

Listening to this always makes me feel better.
